It's true that people like to say that Macon is making a comeback. Though like the article says it's finally becoming. It's a movement with these Popular Street developments.

Here are some renderings of the project. It will be an 18-unit loft project.

NewTown Macon announced their Godsey Initiatives Fund just received $2 million to invest in small businesses downtown.

The program helps coach people looking to start a business, and provides funding after their 380 hours of coaching is finished.

NewTown has already helped businesses downtown make their ideas come to life. Reboot Arcade co-owner Jeremy Smith says NewTown helped create his business.

"Where NewTown stepped in is that they were able to take our business plan and essentially go off of just the presumption that it would work. Our hard work, our business plan and say 'This is profitable and we will invest in it.'"

NewTown President and CEO Josh Rogers says they're open to ideas, "We want to hear about your idea. No matter what it is, and no matter how crazy it is, we found that the crazier they are, the better they tend to do."

The building at 805 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, which was built about 1913, is expected to be turned into 18 lofts, according to an application filed with the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission. The 1.27-acre site containing a vacant 21,200-square-foot building is in the central business district. The property sits between Oak Street and Oak Street Lane.

The item is on the agenda for the zoning meeting Monday as a ratification item, which means it likely will not be discussed during the meeting but will be approved with other ratification items.
