Good news. BWI is a pain in the rear, but so is the Atlanta airport and fighting traffic to get there so...
I'm from MD and fly back to BWI a lot and I always though BWI was a great airport. Pretty small and easy to get through especially considering how terrible of a city Baltimore is. Even if it's not the greatest I like it better than National and WAY better than Dulles.
It depends on where you're going. My family is in Virginia so Dulles and National are both better. I booked a trip today...getting to DC from BWI on a Saturday is tough....
Yeah...BWI is no longer the sleepier of the D.C. area airports like it was 15-20 years ago. You can do pretty much anything you want there (eat, fly wherever, connect to public transportation, etc), but it doesn't excel in any of these areas of service. Case in point: ever rented a car there? After you have, it will completely change how much "lead time" you allow when you travel through BWI.
I used to just hate ATL airport. Now I don't, because some planning and investment took place to help improve the experience as the airport continued to expand. (Yeah, I still avoid the Monday morning rush, though...) I don't get that same feeling going through BWI. It seems like an airport that has very reluctantly become a hub.
Despite the rant, I will start checking flight options from Macon now, when relevant.
I really hope this becomes a big success and more flights are soon added to other cities or possible strike the interest of other carriers to fly out of Macon. It would nice to have flights going to a least 5 or six majors cities from MGA. Maybe (1) NYC, (1) Detroit or Chicago, (1) Ft Lauderdale (1) Nashville (1) Charlotte, plus the (1) going to BWI.
