I’m looking for a doctor’s office that will prescribe me some medicine that I feel have the need for. I have been insured for the past 20 years and I just lost my insurance due to loss of job and also to a recent move. Since I am uninsured I do not want to see a specialist or anything like that, I’m looking for a cheep doctor visit that can prescribe me some medication. I have not been prescribed the medicine before, but feel I need it. I am not looking for any painkillers or “hardcore” drugs that someone “can get high off of.”

Try a nurse practitioner. They can write scripts, but don't cost as much as a M.D.

Welcome to the world of the uninsured. I've been without insurance for 10 years now and it stinks. I can't even pay privately because of pre-existing health issues. No one will take me.

I am sorry you are in this fix. I was the same way for many years. My doctor did keep me on when I lost my insurance but any test was a hassle to get approved by the bevy of doctors. They didn't even want to take payments, just cash up front. They dropped my husband, I think because he was further away from Medicare age than I was. Good luck.

Actually, I've found that getting things done is very expedient when you are paying for it yourself. No insurance company to tell you what you can and can't have done. The doctors can tell you what they really think you need. The challenge is paying for it........

Go in with cash and negotiate. When a doctor bills insurance/medicaid/medicare, they usually only expect to get 50% paid. My wife worked in a doctor's office for a while and he just accepted the fact. Your best bet is find a older private practice and discuss with the Doctor or office manager.

Good luck!

The KEY thing is to pay cash upon delivery of the service. If you agree to do this, many doctors will be happy to offer a discount as they do not incur the expense of billing.

Thanks for the lead. I'm pretty sure I tried them already, but it couldn't hurt to try again.
