Interesting. We are in North Georgia, just North of ATL. Summer = 77 - 78, with set back to 75 at around 9:30 PM. Winter = 68, setback at around 9:30 PM to 62.

We keep our new home at ~64 at night and while we are at away and ~68 while we are home. Would probably be lower at night or while we are away, but we have a pet in the house. We've been running our living room gas fireplace quite a bit this winter. Summer with AC is usually set around 77, but many days in the summer we just turn our furnace off and open the windows. Our gas/electic bill has been running about ~$120 per month.

Our office suite is generally set ~72 year round but it has several zones and some get hotter/colder than others and adjusting them individually doesn't seem to do much good. The building system is really strained when it's around 50-60 outside - it doesn't always know whether to have heat or AC on, so during the Spring or Fall it can be overly hot or cold in there.

Interesting that I keep my thermostat both higher in the winter and lower in the summer and yet my gas & electric bill is pretty much the same on average as Ragner's bill. Actually, most months is is about $75-$80, but there are months that spike high enough, that I'm betting I get up to an average of around $120 overall. I just had really good windows put in about 5 years ago, so I'm sure that helps. I was concerned about the quality of the insulation in my house, but perhaps it isn't so bad after all.

I just realized something. My house is small. Ragner's might be bigger. My house is 976 sq feet on the main level and there is 428 finished square feet on the lower level, although the furnace room does have heating vents (which I keep closed, but obviously they aren't sealed) and is quite toasty in the winter and cool in the summer.

My home is ~2,700 finished square feet on all three levels, and was built in 2013 with energy efficient windows, upgraded insulation and a 2-stage furnace. So far I am very pleased with the performance of my new furnace. The old furnace we left behind was 25 years old and much less efficient in a home 1/2 the size of our new one.

That explains it. Your house is over 3x as big as mine.
