Salient part of that article:

"Others see chinks in the Epic armor, wondering, for example, if cloud-based medical records will blow out Epic's primacy."

Indeed. From a cloud-based medical records provider article:
Cloud-based health record company CareCloud reports tripling revenues | VentureBeat | Health | by Matt Marshall

"...(cloud-based ) has a big advantage...because it charges doctors only in the low single-digit thousands for implementation. And because it is cloud-based, it can update its software automatically, so doctors can stay on top of complex, fast-moving regulation and compliance mandates.

Legacy vendors typically charge around $30,000 per doctor for implementation and then more still for subsequent support and upkeep. They’re also often more difficult to integrate with other, emerging technologies."

Which will doctors and hospital choose?

Agreed. Operating in the cloud (based model) will be a big cost savings advantage for companies. It really depends on whether companies can adapt business models fast enough (Epic) to continually increase revenues, gain market share, and add employees based on a projection indicated in this article.

Epic will stay in the marketplace for a very long time. Too much work for hospitals to transition from epic's records system to something else and also too pricey to make a change that quick. They will remain profitable.

Verona and Fitchburg is actually the communities that is benefiting from Epic.
