Hi all,

I will be moving to Madison this summer and am struggling to find apartments. I am now strongly considering University Row apts and Sequyoa Commons. Any pros or cons about either? Or are there any other complexes that you would recommend?

Thanks!

Both of the complexes you mention should be pretty reliable. They definitely fall in the high-end category, so you can be reasonably sure of having attentive management, well-maintained properties and lots of amenities. You'd have a reasonable commute to most parts of the city, unless you are going to be working on the extreme eastern edge of town out by the interstate, in which case you'd probably want to look east of the Capitol. And they're both far enough away from the UW campus and expensive enough that you are unlikely to have rowdy drunken undergrads for neighbors.

I am not familiar with either of the property management companies, and just for the sake of doing your due diligence, you may want to check in with the Tenant Resource Center to make sure there aren't any significant problems with them. It would also be prudent to do a bit of checking into probable utility costs with MG&E as well (https://www.mge.com/customer-service...rage-use-cost/) to get a sense of what you might pay in gas and electricity. Be aware that this past winter has been a particularly cold one, so costs reported for the December/January/February timeframe are likely to be higher than would normally be the case in the winter.

Good luck in your relocation.

I bike or drive past the Lodge every day. It looks like quality construction, seems to have high end finishes (from the outside). I don't know anything else about them specifically.

It is a convenient location. It is right on the bike path (and a golf course which reduces building crowding), across from Target and Hilldale mall, and quick access to campus and downtown. A little farther from the beltline if you plan to take that. the only semi-major downside to those apartments is that the train runs right behind them. We don't get many- maybe a few a week? But they do blow their horns (despite length ordinance battles) so you might be bothered by that. However, one of the more expensive neighborhoods in the city is right there so don't think that tracks means it is a bad place!
