I get your point.

Personally, I'm holding out for the position of Chairman of the Board of General Motors to open up before I take a job as a lowly cement finisher, carpenter, electrician, plumber, factory worker or truck driver, not to mention a job at Walmart, Menards, HomeDepot or at a dairy farm.

If I wanted any of those jobs, I could start today at 8AM anywhere in the state.

Maybe I should have spent $40,000 a year for 4 yrs of college and then another for a Master's so I could be a barrista at Starbucks. Without a college degree, I would never be able to enjoy reading a classic on my own.

Not true at all. The private for profit sector and tax generation in Madison is the best in the state. And high quality Universities generate growth from their R&D.

Most of the state is money takers. Madison is the generator.

The entire nation is looking for skilled trades, and many areas of the nation pay substantially better than anything in WI does. The fact is the economy is not growing in Wisconsin as fast as many areas, the wage rates are depressed, and the tax burden remains high. I do hold out hope to get back someday, but it may end up being as a snowbird in retirement.

I, sadly, think this will be my situation. Maybe a small 2-3 season place in one of the Kickapoo Valleys. The economy and the direction of the state just isn't looking promising. I really want to be hiking the bluffs of the Mississippi and fishing the Wisconsin River though.
