I'm being interviewed for a job in Madison. We are from Europe and NYC. We moved to Austin, TX 4 years ago and this would be the 3rd big move for my son but he prefers winter over the treacherous summers here in Texas. That said, I'm a city girl by nature and love to bike.

I'm seeking a neighborhood that is accommodating for teens (read safe) as well as for me. Access to downtown, easy to bike, and multi-cultural. I don't want to get stuck with the traditional 2 parents 2 kids kind of suburb. No cookie cutter nonsense for me. I'm a progressive liberal who has traveled the world. Want a district with single moms, singles, families, couples, gays, straight, diversity of all sorts if that even exists -- you name it. Where shall I look?

What's your budget? How much room do you want? Buying or renting? I would say near east would probably suit you best. You could also look in the near west area near Monroe St or Vilas area.

It depends on where you will be working. Really. That is the big issue. But I do love the near east side.
