All right, so this'll be short and sweet. Im looking for a good place to live in Madison. Im 18, driving from Albany, NY and I have a guaranteed full time job out there. I need to be around UW Madison and a few suburbs have caught my eye so heres the question. If im in a suburb how easy would it be to get college roomates (or young roomates in general) in a decent apartment? And where would be my best option for that? I would be looking for ~500-600 a month, and Im not picky about anything past that really. As long as the apartment is decent, and in a good enough part of town where I wont get shot for political bumper stickers. Thanks ahead of time!

Guys/gals your age are going to want to live in Madison itself, and close to downtown. Why are you looking to a suburb?

Cost of living will be down (id think) and im not a huge city person but I've heard Madison has a small town feel.

Have you read through the sticky?

Maybe it'll help you find a roommate(s).
Best of luck OP and keep us posted as to how it goes.

Thanks, but out of that the only thing that stood out was to check craigslist for apartments, but id have to find a place and a roomate before I move. It wouldn't be for probably 6-12 months down the road though. I have found a handful of roomate finders online, are they any good or all BS?

Madison is barely a city. It's definitely a town feel.

Eh, each to their own, but when I moved there I looked for people looking for a roommate and went from there, instead of looking for another person looking for an apartment.

Sorry I can't be more help, when I lived in Madison in my 20s I didn't meet or know any 20 somethings that didn't live in Madison. Going out for drinks, etc is a huge part of Madison, and that doesn't mix with driving.

I'd suggest Craigslist. Alternatively call up property management places and ask if a sublet or room share opportunity has come across their desk. For the summer it shouldn't be too difficult, however, your competition will be fierce starting ~August.

Another suggestion is to look on westside nearby epic. They're hiring and firing and burning out people all the time, and I know there's several 'room share' opportunities around there because of this.

Good luck!!
