Which do you prefer ? How do they compare ? Is either easier for a couple 60 year olds to walk around, etc ?

Thanks.

I haven't spent much time at Mirror Lake, but would think that one big benefit it would hold over Devil’s Lake is it has far lower attendance. So perhaps less congestion on popular trails. Not a bad thing these days.
Both parks have trails that go from easy to hard.
For add’l options depending in where you are coming from or staying at, there is also Gov Dodge state park further west and Gov Nelson in Madison.
And just a bit northwest of Madison is Indian Lake county park, some nice trails and it’s free access.

State parks are packed right now & Devils Lake is probably the most popular state park in the state. I'd avoid it if you don't like crowds. Or go real early on a weekday.

I was at Gov Dodge briefly yesterday, & then went to Tower Hill state park. Even Tower Hill, which is usually dead was busy in the morning.

I wonder if yesterday’s amazing temps (for here) and decent colors brought everyone out. Indian Lake park had cars lined up almost to 19 to park. And the Pecks markets on 14 looked slammed as well. Next weekend with more fall like cool temps may cut back on attendance

Yesterday had everything going for it for crowds. Sun out, a Saturday, warm temps, peak or near peak fall foliage. I went out to Gov Dodge this morning & at first there weren't many cars in the parking lot trail head at 9 AM, but it was full when we left. This morning is cloudy & cool.

Peak fall color around here is between 2nd to 4th week in Oct.
