My neighbor is one of the owners of Maza! Very nice woman. I've eaten there too, and agree the food is great and the prices very reasonable. The construction on State Street has been killing them, however, so I would encourage everyone to make an effort to patronize them in order to ensure that they stay afloat. It would be a shame to loose a great little indy restaurant because the city has made it inconvient to get to them. I swear for a pedestrian only street it sure seems to require a lot of repairs....

I think food fight is more or less boring.

Downtown: Vientiane Palace (cheap and good thai food)

Suburban: Louisianne's in middleton (very upscale new orleans)

The op didn't ask what you *don't* like, just what you did. I take offense at you slamming my recommendation.

I actually agree with you. Boring is the last thing I'd call Food Fight. I don't like some of their restaurants (Their Mexican one in the Willy Area is overpriced and bland), but I think many of their restaurants actually make some of the most interesting and experimental food in Madison. My favorite is Bluephies, by far. I've been there like 1000 times and never had a bad meal.

Pedro's sucks.

Magnus is no longer Argentinean, but Norwegian and I love it. La Finca on the North Side has excellent burritos.

Taqueria Guadalajara is this dumpy little Mexican Restaurant on South Park St. Go in there on any weekday, and chances are you'll be one of the only people in the restaurant that speaks English. The food is completely authentic, dirt cheap and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

One of our favorites thus far has been Roman Candle Pizza. It's really good, some of the best I have ever had.

I greatly enjoy the Swagat Indian restaurant in the shopping center at the corner of Old Sauk Road and High Point Road. They have a great mix of meat and vegetable dishes, both spicy and mild.
