Hi there,

Thank you everyone for the helpful answers which have lessened the challenges of a Florida to Madison relocation.

There are so many good restaurants in the city that I realized that having a gym membership is important.

We went by the Capital Fitness downtown and my wife liked the yoga but the gym was just okay and I imagine it will be packed with students and you have to pay for parking. We then went to the gargantuan Princeton Club which I really liked altough it's a 5-6 mile drive because it seems to have EVERYTHING but there are dozens if not hundreds of reviews on how it is poorly maintained with old equipment and a lot of people are down on the owner tying the gym into religion? They did tell me an express or smaller version of the airplane hanger gym will be opening in Monona.

Today, I am planing on checking out Anytime Fitness which is in Monona and has a bunch of small clubs .

The question is for weights and cardio is there a favorite gym and is it safe to assume that all the negativity/complaints online is situational....since I do have to pick one of them!

Thank you,
Justin

I like the Princeton Club and it's express clubs are quite nice. Just thought I'd pipe up you wouldn't strictly be hearing from the nay-sayers. That said there are a number of nice smaller gyms in the area. Few are convenient to Monona, however.

one benefit to the Anytime Fitness chain is exactly that--it's a chain; so if you travel you have a good chance to find one where you are heading. Obviously you wont get a pool, or an indoor track (nice in winter in WI), but it may be an option if a more intimate setting is desired for working out--and again if travel is something you do.

Oh, as for winter workouts, if it's a normal winter snow-wise in Madison, you'll get plenty of excercise shoveling your drive/walk that a trip to the gym wont even creep into your thoughts lol

I am a member of the princeton club, and their equipment is fine. It is gargantuan though and can get crowded at times.
The express clubs are quite nice and you can join those for cheaper, or they are included in the membership fee for the big club.
I live close to one of the express clubs, which is where I do a majority of my work, but I use the big club for it's indoor track, racquetball courts and pool.
I also read about them opening up an express club in monona and they advertise it at the gym, but I don't know where they are with that.

Princeton Club Express and Planet Fitness are a couple of options I remember from visiting that area.
