Howdy everyone!
We're moving next to Huegel elementary, but apparently the boundary line is drawn around our house so that even though we can throw a stone at Huegel, our children are supposed to go to Stoner Prairie in Verona, which is miles away. I'm not sure if this is a blessing or annoyance...does anyone have any personal knowledge or experience with either of these elementary schools? Could you give me your opinion on which one is better and in what areas?
I'd also like to know if there are any alternative schools in Madison, such as those that focus on developing character, music skills, foreign language, etc. instead of just the regular ABCs & 123s generally taught in public schools. Here is an example school of what I'm looking for:
Journey School, Public Charter School, k-8
And I'd also like to know about any recommended pre-schools or montessori schools in Madison, preferrably near the far southwest side.

Thanks, Megan...so this should be viewed as a blessing then! *phew* Even though it will require me to drive them to Verona rather than let them walk across the street, LOL, do Verona schools provide free bus transportation? Does Madison have an early start preschool program?

I don't know this for a fact, but I would *think* that if you're kids are assigned to a school, the school district should be responsible for transporting them.

That isn't the case in CA...hence my asking, I just don't know anything about how WI does it all...I'm guessing with the taxes paid, it should cover most necessities with schooling.

You also do not have to pay for garbage pick up in Madison. It shocked me when I was considering moving to Austin that that isn't the case in most other places.

Funnily enough, I was shocked Madison covered trash & recycling services...I don't know of any other major city that covers those services! I'm excited to see how the schools are - the elementary classes in OC are 45 students per 1 teacher, I'm not sure how any of us can spell or speak intelligently! LOL

45!? Yikes. You'll never see that here. 25 tops. In SAGE schools it's 15:1 for grades K-2.
