Are there any full time music teaching jobs near Madison for a non tenure teacher thats 24 years old with experience teaching at 2 different schools? Or is there a budget /hiring freeze in Wisonsin for teachers as well.

Individual school districts set their own hiring policies, there is no state wide hiring freeze.

That said, I think music positions would be hard to come by. In Madison, for example, they have specials teachers covering multiple schools to cut back on the number of staff needed.

The Madison area is competitive for all kinds of teaching jobs because of the presence of UW-Madison and Edgewood College which together produce many teachers. A lot of people come here for school and then want to stay after graduation. Plus, a lot of UW faculty spouses/partners tend to be teachers.

I agree with Megan. It is hard to get a job in the Madison schools as they pay well and overall it's a good work environment. Then to get a job that is a special (elective) is even tougher. You would have to try neighboring school districts, maybe substitute teach first until something opens, try a part time opening out. Where there is a will there is a way, but as usual, the MMSD has a budget shortfall so now is not the best time to get a job with them.
