You might want to rent a small or compact car for a few days to get the lay of the land so to speak around the area. I might suggest "Wing Auto" in Brewer for a second hand car. They are very accomodating and do not carry "new" only used. They will also try to find you the car you want. My husband bought a 1999 Camry from them less than a year ago and has been happy with the service. Brewer is just across the Penobscot River from Bangor.

It is almost impossible to get around this area without a car unless you are in the downtown or on the bus route.

Or unless you live in Acadia from June 30 to September 30. ;-)

Not only does Eastport have high-speed internet, but last year Time-Warner came in and put in all new fiber-optic cable everywhere in town. I have handled a few apartments, and 600 including heat is certainly available.

hi. i am looking to relocate to maine this summer. i am finding a hard time trying to get info on jobs, rentals etc. most of the sites i have checked have very little to offer. this site seems to be full of people who are willing to share what they know, so i will try here. i am hoping to live in the houlton area, and would like to know what job availability and housing are like. i am willing to work at anything at all, and will require at least a three bedroom kid and pet friendly home. fixer upper or rent to own would be perfect. i am somewhat flexible on location, but would really prefer aroostock county so that i can be close to friends in n.b. canada. any advice, suggestions would be very helpful
thanks

I am moving from CT and my short list is Eastport, ME Marble Falls, TX, and Bloomington, IN. I have lived previously in Eastport and Austin. I know Eastport would be impossible if I had to work but I don't, although a part time job would be nice. Any places to search for part time jobs in Eastport on the internet, Quoddy tides does not let you see classifieds in their online version.

It depends on your skills. It seems like there's always some kind of odd jobs to do, but as far as a regular part time job, you have to be here to snag one. Unlike the rest of America, Eastport doesn't have any list of jobs that people won't do. Most people have a few "jobs" anyway, but it works out.
