Just thought I would post a photo my Sister in Law just sent me of my brothers latest play thing he is building. I bet he has it finished by now and is probably trying it out as I type. If it doesn't look "too dangerous" you need to realize that the pole is set at the edge of a 40-50' drop to the Aroostook river right behind his house. The thing he is hoisting to the top is a pivot that mounts over the top of the pole with 2 ropes/cables attached that allow it to spin 360 degrees around the pole. You put on a climbing harness and hook onto the end of the cable and then two of you run, swing, and fly out over the drop-off.

Ah, the things an Aroostook County boy will do to entertain himself on a hot day.

Another photo of his oldest son getting ready for a turn. Oh and I was informed it is NOT a climbing harness, they are using full body fall arresting harness' you use for working high steel.

His wife has a short video of it in action, but it is on her facebook page and I don't know how to link to it. Looks like a blast to tell you the truth.

I'm not sure how to respond. Part of me wants to say, who needs expensive toys, just look what the "boys" came up with. Part of me wants to say "looks like fun" Then the mother part kicks in and is yelling "WHAT ARE YOU - CRAZY!!!"

Hmm, okay. That could be fun

Very nice

Maybe if we hooked up more power to it? You could spin the person real fast!

Or change out the harness so it can launch a person out over the river?

Our riverbank has too many trees, real thick, I do not think we have a clearing big enough to do that.

He has said MANY times since he bought the house years ago that if he owned the land on the other side, he is going to put a Zip line in.

They shot a couple short videos of the "Swing o' Death" in action, but I'll be dipped if I know how to attach them in C-D. Once I figure it out, this will be the first place I'll post a link.
