The Piscataquis is at an all time low for the date.

USGS Real-Time Water Data for USGS 01034000 Piscataquis River at Medford, Maine

Many rivers are low. We were in Massachusetts last weekend. The Merrimack, Androscoggin and Kennebec are all lower than I have ever seen. The Penobscot is quite low, but they draw down the lakes up north to keep white water rafters happy. The lakes are getting quite low.

This runs in cycles which tend to follow sun spot cycles. We had a big drought in Angus King's first term and we had one in 2001.

Wytopitlock Stream is flowing at 1.2 CFS. Long term average is 76 CFS.

The Mattawamkeag River is at 4189 CFS with a long term average of 865 CFS.

It's dry folks.

Trucks are hauling gravel for a new logging road here and the gravel is bone dry. It squirts dust when you step on it.

The Androscoggin is low too. We hit bottom in the canoe several times last weekend in places we couldn't even see bottom in the past. You could literally walk across it in some places now. Makes for good bass fishing though!

slightly off topic- but has to do with water, just not river water. tides are extremely low and high- i asked him about it, i thought that didnt happen again until the fall equinox. he told me it wasnt, and checked the tide charts again to be sure, they didnt predict being like this.

(cue X-files music) Probably due to planet X being in the solar system.

It's the new moon.(10th) Similar to the full moon effect on the tides. Not quite as severe as full moon tides but almost. The tides drain more during the new and full moon phases. Try another tide chart. Mine shows minus tides right through the weekend.

Maybe the Bangor Daily News reads these pages. Six days ago I posted about the all time low water on the Piscataquis River. Today this is front page news in the BDN. Aside from an occasional shower there is no significant rain in the forecast. Last time we had a very dry summer we had huge snows that winter.

"I'm just sayin'."
