I'm all for bringing entertainment to the waterfront in Bangor but Saturday night's concert was just a bit "over the top". We live about a mile and a half from the site where the concert was held and could distinctly hear the words and the thumping music for 3 hours. A few of us like to go to bed around 10. If they plan to bring 35 or 40 next year during the summer and fall months, this noise is totally unacceptable. I wonder what it was like for those living only a quarter of a mile away.

Did you tell the city officals? I'm sure they can work something out that all parties can live with.

Open air concerts do tend to make a lot of noise.

You'll have a peaceful winter I guarantee it! There is always someone who will call music "disturbing the peace". It seems to me that if there is an event benefiting hundreds of local people then it's not too much to ask for neighbors to put up with it for a while. We can distinctly hear the LL Bean concert series all summer long from our house. The concerts vary from subtle to Very Loud! Does it bother me???? No! Do the fireworks they set off several times a year bother me??? No. Then again I don't go to bed at 10:00 PM either. New neighbors who bought a home close to the Cumberland Fairgrounds complained about the noise from the Fair and especially about the helicopter rides they had on weekends. Since there was no way they were going to silence the entire Cumberland Fair the "compromise" was to stop the helicopter rides. It's a great way to endear oneself to the residents of their new town.

I'd get a vending permit of some kind and make a few bucks.

RHB what the "city officials" care about isn't the residents bothered by the noise, What they care about is the $$ that's brought in via restaurants motels etc and especially how happy "Hollywood Slots" is.

City officials lead us to believe that our real eastate taxes would not go up because of the wonderful profits from the Casino. lol What a joke that was.

And?

Were you confused and thinking that there was some other concern on the city councils minds?

I am not following you here.

They are looking at their budget, they want a bigger budget, and the ability to retire with a 'legacy' behind them.

You are right about the present council - and their "legacy". If they have their way Bangor will be building a $70million dollar arena very soon. It's interesting to me - and I guess I really 'don't' get it - when our public library is closed for furloug days because the council was unable to fund it for the present fiscal year. Guess how much is currently set aside as "for sure" money toward this project? At the present it is under $7 million which was our share of Hollywood Slots. To me it is just not appropriate to expect taxpayers to come up with $67million even if it is over a number of years.

It wasn't that many years ago that I attended a city council meeting when Ed Barrett
was city manager and one of his suggestions for "cost cutting" was to shut off every other street light. I kid you not!

We are discussing politicians.

We should all know that as a rule they will generally be slimy. Yet from your tone I must assume that you are surprised by this behavior.
