Hey all!

Just pulled in the driveway and saw an animal. Kind of looked like a big groundhog with fluffy/mangey fur and a big fluffy tail. Kind of walked with a strange hobble... dark colored.

I'm in Holden next to Bangor... and it was about 7:00 this evening.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Raccoon? Skunk? I thought woodchuck and groundhog were the same thing?

looked up images of woodchuck and groundhog... same shape head... body was similar but bigger... and the hair was super fluffy and not nice looking... as the woodchuck and groundhog seem to have shorter more smooth fur.

I got a really good look at it as it was in no rush to leave... followed me up the drive way and crossed a couple of feet in front of my headlights and even stopped and looked right at me... it was HUGE. Not something I wanted to get out of my car to meet or have my 53 pound boxer meet.

We live on a big hill with lots of woods behind us.

Wondering if the fisher cats look different up here than what I just looked up.

The nose seems more pointy on the fisher cat... the profile was more oval like the woodchuck... and it was really troll like the way it looked and moved low to the ground.

I got a really good look at it with high beams... it had no raccoon markings. It was all over darkish but not black... and really beat up looking fluffy fur.

Baby brown bear. The mother must be around somewhere. Careful.
