Can anyone tell me what a cord of wood - delivered, runs up there in Maine for those who do not cut their own wood on their property?

Here in NJ it runs anywhere from $140-170 per cord. We heat exclusively with wood throughout the winter.

Also, is it possible to heat with wood exclusively up there?

Thanks.

Is that a full cord or a face cord? Seasoned or green? I paid $220 a cord last year for full cords of seasoned hardwood. 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet stacked singly. Bought five and only burned one and a half. Warm winter. That price you quote sounds like green wood.

Thousands of people heat their homes exclusively with wood here.

Not really, Maine tends to be a bit high for the cost of wood. Around here I can get good seasoned hardwood for $90 a full cord if I go pick it up. Delivered it is around $120 a full cord.

My Brother uses wood up in the Caribou area and he just paid $190 a cord (but he knows the guy very well, regular price is $240 a cord). Agree with Maineah that a LOT of people use wood exclusively for heat in Maine.

We paid $200 a cord for seasoned hardwood in August (cut, split and delivered). Log length goes for about $120 a cord. We are in Southern Aroostook County and are heating exclusively with wood.

No - this is seasoned hard wood, mostly oak. So it sounds a bit higher up there perhaps?

A lot higher! I wish I could buy seasoned wood for $140-$170 a cord! I don't know why it's high here maybe the demand is higher?? I think they try to keep it on a par with oil somewhat. When oil rises so does wood.

I should start hauling wood north. I can get seasoned red oak here for $100.00-120 all day long.

Our eldest son is currently a long-haul truck driver. He has no 'route', every load takes him to a different place, where he sits trying to find his next load.

I speak with him a few times each week. Rarely does a week go by that he does not re-calculate the profit margin for hauling firewood North. [or corn, or barley, ...]

Fuel costs are too high to break even.
