I continually tease my brother about being south of "the volvo line". Particularly as he drives a Mercedes, hehe. Maybe that's why the last time he was here he was driving a big Dodge truck? hehehe.

The line is coming like a tide that doesn't recede. Just picture the northernmost Volvo dealer in Bangor which serves Orono and Bar Harbor.

To me, the Volvo line can be best described like this: Beautiful summer day, guy from North of the line with a fishing pole in hand on the bank of a quiet lake, catching fish. It's the perfect day. Then a father and son from South of the line slowly troll by in a 20' center console with 4 rods hanging out the back. He too is catching fish. Guy on the shoreline says to his buddy "Look at that jerk, who is he trying to impress ?!…..Dang, I wish I had a boat !"

Can't say that would be the first (or any) thought that came to my mind.

Perhaps, but I know of generations of those North of the line folk that set and still maintain those traditions of fishing, principally fly fishing, from the shore of a quiet lake.

Please, let's lose all the stereotypes; they don't benefit anybody.

You are missing my point. It was an analogy. It has nothing to do with fishing.

I shouldn't be in here cos I live in MA but this is hysterical. The Volvo line.

I'm laughing until tears come down. You poor people, you get invaded and you even have a NAME for it. lol

They're all the same--they drive those same cars, they dress the same, they are politically correct, and about most commonsense things, they are absolutely clueless. Some of those boats are ginormous!

You stay just the way you are--you're better than they are!

We have a generalized term for folks from Massachusetts as well. The term "The Volvo Line" has been around for a long time. Most of us use it in a joking manner. There was a suggestion put forth to split Maine into two seperate States, much like the current sentiment in Arizona.

If you're in MA, you must listen to Howie Carr on occasion...He calls them "the beautiful people"!
