Yes, you read that correctly. Seems a man in Kittery has decided he's not happy with the increased traffic and road expansion in his Kittery neighborhood. The middle school has expanded, and happens to be across the street from him. He's lined the street facing edges of his property with toilets in protest.

Fosters.com, Dover NH, Rochester NH, Portsmouth NH, Laconia NH, Sanford ME

I have to admit, I feel a little bad for the guy, especially if he's experiencing "areas of his property now flood". But really? He didn't notice the school across the street when he bought the property? He didn't rationalize what that might mean for the neighborhood's future? hmmmm.....

I particularly took notice of this part of the article:

"I was very vocal at all the meetings and went through the entire process," Linscott said. "We were told, 'Yes, we're listening' and then they did what they wanted."

and then at the end: "We're not asking for much," Linscott said. "I just want to be heard."

I think maybe he's confusing being "heard" and "getting the result I want".

At the very least, everyone is hearing him. There are a number of stations reporting on this tonight on their news, and I found three different articles about it. I went searching for the story because I thought surely I must have missed the point somewhere.... I think maybe I still do. WABI reported that the man wants the city to build him a fence. Really?

Back in the 1960s an eccentric heir to the Kodak fortune lined the street frontage of her summer home in Kennebunk Beach with cast-iron bathtubs from a defunct summer hotel. Filled them with dirt and planted flowers to protest the tourists who parked on her lawn and tossed trash into the street. She also had a stone wall with broken glass set into the top to keep tourists from sitting on it.

Toilets on lawn as protest: Maine man uses potties to pooh-pooh town decision | wtsp.com
Quote:
Linscott says the 17 toilets of various designs and colors outside his Kittery home are meant to show his disdain for the closing of an elementary school, which led to more parking near a now-expanded middle school.

Linscott tells Foster's Daily Democrat people now wander onto his properties.

He's been displaying the toilets on his lawn since the fall.
I guess it's "tough crap" for everyone!!!

If I am reading this right he lives across the street from the middle school.... aside from the fact linning your yard with toilets across from a "middle school" is asking for trouble... What did he want the town to do?

You live next to something like that you have to expect some changes.. But he says he only wants to be heard??

Screw that. If I was that upset I would be specific! The town should have done this....as apposed to that.. The town needs to fix "this"...

Traffic??? he's probably sol... but if in fact he has drainage problems brought on by the widening of the road... I would demand the town fix that!

ps. are those NEW TOILETS? I need one
