I looked into purchasing a home in N. ME not that long ago. That fell apart when the home needed more work than I thought was reasonable, given the asking price.

After that experience, I got to thinking. I used to work with chronic pain patients as a massage therapist, and I would be open to working with that population again.

So, in thinking this through, in order to be in an area where I could work more closely with not just my clients, but also with pain clinics, hospitals and private physicians/dentists, I would need to be in S. or Central ME. That still leaves a lot of options for places to set up shop.

In the opinion of the forum, where would the best place for me to set up shop, actually be?

you could send out your services to these places in portland , lewiston, auburn, brunswick, bangor see what kind of reply you get

southern maine is where the people are, but also more competition, if you researched where most of the massage therapists are now- what town then match against towns that dont have them- not a bad idea

do you do house-calls?

No, I don't do house calls.

My massage table is too big and heavy for me to move by myself. I ordered it to be tough and heavy-duty with extra strength/width/weight tolerance for the sake of my larger clients. Imagine my when it showed up and I found out that I couldn't move it on my own! LOL

I also think that while southern Maine has many more potential clients, that is likely where most of the competition will be. That said, if you have a niche market (chronic pain patients, which we all know are not in short supply), then if you can get some good referral sources going, you might do just fine.
