I thought so too. It's not Saturday but today would have been a good day to have a pot of beans in the oven.

baked beans are still very popular in maine, many stores will make and sell baked beans on saturday, and sell alot!
one store in particular , Hussey's in windsor, is quite well known for their beans- theyve been making and selling them on saturdays for over 50 years.
A tradition thats still alive today

back in the day, when you couldnt leave the table til you cleaned your plate-well, i had the cleanest plate thanks to the dog!

The brown bread is steamed in a tin can or you canh buy it already in a can. It is very dark brown.
I hate beans too. I can eat lots of red dogs though.

See now I don't know many people who eat beans on Saturday anymore. It is old school.

Many food items are old-school, but you'd be surprised at how some items still sell
such as liver, blood sausage, tripe, and in French communities- creton, tortiere pies, and corned pork.

That doesn't surprise me at all. If I see cretons in a store I will buy several containers of it.Once in a while Shaw's in Ellsworth has it. I was going to order some from Bean's Meats.I have a couple recipes for it that I want to try too. My old boss make "toochy" pie for her friends for Christmas.
I just don't see the beans and hot dogs on Saturday night much anymore. It is just my experience.

Growing up we would have beans and hot dogs either at our house or another family or friends house. I don't know to many people that do it now. They have one once a month at the garange hall and we go to that when we get a chance. Growing up I didn't realize they made hot dogs that weren't red until I was a teenager.

I was gonna say was that one stereotype is that everyone in Maine knows where Cabot Cove is, and won't tell anyone from away.

I'm right. You know I am!
