I'm looking for some easy hikes for next weekend. We'll have our 1 and 2 years olds with us. My brief search so far has come up with Flying Mt, Jordan Pond, Ship Harbor, and South Bubble. Any recommendations?

With a 1 and 2 year old, I'd stay on the carriage trails. There is parking at Eagle Lake and a carriage trail goes completely around the lake. That is a pretty loop. The carriage trails will have hikers, bikers, and horse carriages on them, but no vehicles. There are a crushed stone base and offer some beautiful scenery.

You could even use a carriage vs putting them on your back or front if you want.

You can walk along the trail which parallel's the loop road from Sand Beach to Thunder Hole. Not too hard and just wonderful views of the ocean.

That was my first hike and it was very pleasant. And yes, easy.

My favorite hike is from the parking lot, to the Jordan Pond House restaurant.

For a 1 - 2 year old, a walk from the parking lot to the little beach at Lake Wood, would be fun. And there is a trail around the lake, just like there is a delightful trail around Jordan Pond. But for the kids, just walking down to the edge of the pond from perhaps having Tea/coffee with popovers at 4:00 PM in the outside booths at the Pond House is simply not to be missed.
