I live in the Lincoln area and, I really do like it up here. If you want to be in an area that's "laid back" I think you would enjoy it.

The Lincoln area offers a wide availabilty of outdoor activities. Snowsledding, atv trails, fishing, boating, camping, most people I know enjoy some form of outdoor sport/activity. There is a small Walmart, Hannafords, a couple of butcher shops but, there are no malls so any shopping is done in smaller stores. There is a McDonald's and a Tim Hortons (new), a couple pizza places, chinese place anda couple of diner type places. There's a lumberyard as well as three hardware stores. I live a bit out of "town" so I plan my trips to do most errands at one time. The hospital is small but good (IMO). There's a pretty decent medical practice (Health Access Network).
People are generally friendly. They'll say hello, hold a door and are mostly genial. Neighbors (if you have any) will be quick to help you out in a fix but, mostly mind their own business. They're not likely to become "coffee buddies", they have their own circle and aren't likely to become your best friend quickly. In my opinion, people aren't in a rush to accomadate others, it's NOT a city.
If you want privacy, time to "watch the grass grow" and are an independant soul,... this is a great place to be.
Lincoln

"You won't find a moose in the Wal-Mart parking lot every day, but it has been known to happen!"

That's cool! Well, there's wildlife and nature for you.

My kids bus has had to stop twice this year on the way to school because of moose in the road (once in fall and once recently in spring). However, I have never run into one in the road (yet). Deer I have seen plenty, but Moose I've only seen in Baxter area so far.
