Wide selection of food, 'home-cooked' style, great service, good prices!

We like the Governor's.

However their primary focus is on deep fried and breaded foods.

If you had any cause to avoid deep-fried or wheat, you would have difficulty eating there.

Unfortunately, the Guvnah's is not the same as it was many moons ago. Maybe they got rid of the trans fat or something?

Scarborough...Baileys clams are the best! Kens gets their clams from Baileys.

Alas...I miss the Seagull Diner. It was a Deco landmark, just this side of the bridge in Kittery. They had a seafood platter that included smelts. Two people could barely finish it. Last I heard, a Brit bought it and took it across the pond!

Fried clams....there are NO fried clams in California...except there is a bar in Huntington Beach..Longboard's, that used to have them. The owner was from Cape Elizabeth and had Maine clams flown out here, and he served fried clams...pretty greasy, but they were good.

fried clam strips.....have I mentioned the standard seafood choice around here is Red Lobster. Can't wait to try "real" fried clams!! We do have a Pappas, but who can afford it?

Ewwww...

How dare they serve just the foot of the clam! What do they do with the bellies?

The age old argument in New England is breaded or crumbs. I like crumbs, but breaded is almost like getting two meals in one.

It is difficult, if not impossible to get a good clam cake north of Rhode Island though. Same for stuffed clams.

At RL, they are so thickly breaded you're hard pressed to figure out just which part of the clam (if there's even any in there) that you are eating. The breading tastes ok, though. I do prefer a lighter crumb coating on my fried seafood.
