I may be taking a position in Freeport for well over 100K salary. I was wondering, on that salary, where should I look for housing in terms of a rental? I want to rent a house for myself, wife and two small children with stuff to do, walk to good schools, stores, coffee shops, etc. Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

I'd start with a real estate agent. Been to Freeport yet to roam around, check out the area? Practiced ridding yourself of the mid-western twang for a downeast accent?

Maine is very loosly populated and there are not many towns that are walkable in the sense that I am assuming what your looking for..

But Freeport is very close to Brunswick and just so happens Brunswick is one of those places... nice downtown with shops, coffee house, cafe's ect.. and very walkable.. home to Bowdoin college.. good schools..

I aggree - Check out Brunswick. It's a nice college town so you can take advantage of things on campus of Bates ie- plays, music etc. and is right next to the town of Bath where there is a great beach and state park - Popham Beach. I envy you to be able to live in that area - as it also a very short drive to Portland for shopping and tons of restaurants. You will find the area VERY different from Chicago.

Kinda curious as to who is paying that kind of money in Freeport. All I hear from Mainers is lack of good paying jobs.

I was actually thinking about moving to the Freeport area from South Portland. Seems to be a bit expensive for what you get.
