I'd be asleep right now if I had AC. It was 91* yesterday and hard to concentrate on work. It's 75* at 1 am and hard to sleep. Working today when it's in the 90's again and the house hasn't cooled down overnight is going to be difficult.

It may only get to the low 80s so far this year, but after working 10+ hrs in a plant where the temps can reach around 100 degrees (no a/c) I do on occasion use the a/c in my truck to help cool me down on my drive home. Usually after driving about 1/2 to 3/4s of the way home I turn it off and open the windows.

I'm surprised your place hasn't cooled down more. We had to put a fan in the bedroom window last night, but that was it.

Oh... and I had to keep kicking the CATS off my legs... furry heaters are NOT appreciated in the summer and they don't understand... but at least I finally stripped the bed and removed the heading mattress pad for the season. I hadn't used it for a couple of months, but I kept finding it on at bed time... I guess the cats found, and learned to step on the right place on the controls which had fallen onto the floor to make the bed temp to THEIR liking!

I don't mind the heat, just hate the humidity. I went to Walmart yesterday and thought about buying a window unit......sold out!!! Except for the $400 or $500 models. So, I bought a new box fan instead......just to blow around hot air ya know!

That's why the ones I sold used last year went so quickly with no negotiation! One family came from Augusta to out north of Bangor to pick one up.

We've never had AC in Ellsworth and I can remember only a few days in the past 50+ years where we might have even thought we needed it. We just open the windows and the house cools down nicely at night and stays cool during the day. We're a mile from the ocean and I am sure that helps. The further from the coast, the greater the chance you might want a window unit AC. If you've been in Maine all your life year round, summer heat seems HOT, but I just spoke with a friend in MD who says it's been 100 there for days and looks forward to coming to Maine to get some heat relief. This same person used to live near Auburn and really needed AC upstairs in July and August. Compared to MD and further south, Maine summers are heaven.....cool and comfy.

Humidity rises to 100% at times and is commonly 70% to 80%. It's falling right now, down to 49% so it's much more tolerable today than yesterday. Air temp is 86* at 4:40 pm.

Namder, go to Home Depot, they still have a lot...or, did today when I went to price. Not the $400 types either, had a TON of $159, 6500 BTUs which is plenty to cool down a bedroom.
