I'm looking for a place to hike along the coast ( next to the water as opposed to above it as at the Bold Coast) with my dog. We have done Sears Island several times.
Thanks John

Chiles400 - Acadia Nat'l Park welcomes dogs and the choices of trails is endless. There was a good article in the Aug.14 Portland Sunday Telegram on how very welcome they are. I got the impression you can even take you dog into some of the restaurants in Bar Harbor. But then maybe I misread that.
One of my favorite places is a short hike - it takes me about 50 minutes one way - is the "Blagden Preserve" off of Indian Trail road on the right on the way to Southwest Harbor. It is lovely and green and you are rewarded at the end with a beautiful saltwater cove and small pebble beach. If you prefer you can walk back to the parking lot on a road instead of the woods trail. I believe this is maintained by the Nature Conservancy.
My husband and I are visiting Maine in September with our dog and are also looking for pet friendly beaches and hiking. We want to spend some time in the interior but are torn between visiting the Gulf Hagas area or the White Mountain area. Where would our time be best spent?
Edit: I see now that you've been there, Chiles, nevermind.
I did go to your site and left a comment on one of the posts...wanting more info about where you hiked. I'm going to keep your site in my bookmarks so that I can find the places to go with my dogs, especially to swim.

I am partial to gulf hagas in september. It is a great place to be when the leaves are changing. That having been said, if mountain views of the surrounding landscape are important to you, gulf hagas might not be the best option.
Brodels, I would say that both sound great. It's just that we have only three days, and it's a long drive between them. My instincts were to go to Gulf Hagas, but there didn't seem to much be much else around. The White Mountain area seems to have more places to visit, with interesting historic towns as well as mountain hikes and vistas. But since I've never been to either, I really don't know. I need an insider's wisdom.
