We are coming to Maine for vacation next summer! Yeah! This is the next step in my quest to live there. We will be staying in the Camden/Belfast area (nothing set in stone yet). Question- How crazy busy is it during the lobster festival in Rockland? Should we avoid this time or embrace it? I figure if we are making the trek all the way up there we might as well experience a Maine lobster festival. Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

Go for it. If you don't, you'll always wonder about it.

"Go for it" x 2!

The general area sort of hums during the Lobster Festival - nothing major. I drive through it coming home from work, and I don't get road rage or anything.

Here's a thought: volunteer for a shift (or more) at the Festival. Here's the Maine Lobster Festival website. Each year while volunteering, I have worked with folks who are here on vacation. You get an awesome t-shirt (to keep) and free admission on the day you volunteer...

Depends where you are moving from. If you live in any big or medium city anywhere on the east coast south of Maine, then there are few traffic jams anywhere in Maine that will bother you much. If you already live in a massive tourist area, then even the touristy areas downeast won't seem like much to you.

Just don't find yourself on IS 95 between Hampton, NH and Portland, ME on a Saturday morning between 7:30 AM and noon in the summer, or you will think that you are on 95, South of Washington DC between 4 and 8 PM on a week day.

Thanks! I'm not worried about traffic due to where I live now. I don't think it could be any worse except in LA! I was thinking more in terms of eating out etc, waiting a long time. We have 2 young boys. I would love to volunteer but don't think I could swing it. It sure sounds fun! Also, I think we are going to stay in Belfast so that should probably help. Thanks for the info!

Yup. Main Street businesses & restaurants are definitely affected by the Lob Fest crowds. Sounds like you have a plan. Best wishes!

If I remember correctly the lobsterfest attracts around 150,000 so yes the Rockland area will be crazy busy but alot of fun.
