We are a large family looking to rent a 4 bedroom house. Something QUIET!! I've wanted to move to Maine forever. I suppose our opportunity has finally arrived. My husband can no longer work due to MS. I write. We have 4 children age ranges 10-18. We'll have our 18 year old's boyfriend tagging along since they are due to have a baby in March. As you can imagine, my hands are full!! We are hoping to find something very soon...as in ASAP. Looking long distance has been hell! We would appreciate any ideas or suggestions. I'm considering packing up and staying in a motel somewhere up there until we find a place. Not ideal for a family as big as ours. We are honestly looking for something out of the way.

We have tried that. We're hoping to find something away from the bigger cities. A lot of the listings seem to be out of our price range on craigs. Possibly many winter rentals. Some people I've contacted don't seem comfortable renting to someone so far away.

Default Free yourself of pressures

Wondering if it MUST be Maine.. where the winters are like 9 months long and you have to have lots of money to pay for all of that heat, etc...

If you can get your family moved down to VA, you may be able to live with some dollars somewhat free'd up to eat. Check out Lynchburg
Compared to the rest of the country, Lynchburg's cost of living is 9.70% Lower than the U.S. average.
Check out Madison Heights just outside of the city.. A place to stretch out but be nearby amenities.
Here is a great place to look for house rentals:

You are confusing Antarctica with Maine.

........winters are like 9 months long........

It may be that 9 months is the new 3 months.

Perhaps winter is anything under 40 degrees to the some folks.

Exaggerators Anonymous meeting just let out.

Ok....that's my devil's advocacy. Go Virginia I guess.

Ha Ha

Never been to Antarctica myself, but no doubt there are nearly as many girls and trees in Antarctica as there are in the Arctic [where I have been]

We have family in SC and TN, but hubby can't tolerate the heat. Believe it or not colder is better. But not Antarctica cold!
