lol....completely get that! my sister was 8 years older than me, and very mean to me.....after I got in trouble from biting her so much, I moved on to better ways to annoy her....eventually discovering the fine art of blackmail! amazing the power you can have when you discover the sister's boyfriend eating your goldfish on a dare.....
so, I tivoed yesterday's Oprah....the Osmonds were on....and I've got about 30 min to go, and I'll post the recipe
Ahh....excuse me....bite your sister.........blackmail.........eating goldfish....and you're giving us a recipe?.......ahhhh...ok.......

Reason: and then there is Osmonds singing in the background?
4 c. sifted stone ground yellow cornmeal
2 c. sifted self rising cake flour
1 T. baking powder
1 1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
2 to 2 1/2 c. beer (or milk)
1 med. onion, minced
1 egg
1/4 c. minced fresh parsley or parsley flakes
1 1/2 t. freshly ground pepper
3 qt. peanut oil
Sift cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and soda into large bowl. Make well in center. Add 2 cups beer or milk, onion, egg, parsley and pepper. Stir quickly until just combined--do NOT over mix. Add remaining 1/2 cup beer if batter is too thick--it should be consistency of porridge.
Preheat oven to 250 degrees (for keeping hush puppies warm). Heat oil in electric skillet, deep fat fryer or large saucepan to 365 degrees. Drop batter by rounded teaspoon into hot oil and fry, turning once, until richly browned, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels, then transfer to serving platter and keep warm in oven. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve hot.
I've never sifted the corn meal and cake flour before sifting it all together, and they've come out fine every time. I've made them with both beer and milk, and I think the beer is better--more like the ones I had in NC Let me know how they come out!!
you're welcome Bydand! hope they're the kind you're remembering
Me too, either way though, it is a keeper! Can't wait to try them tomorrow.
Well the temp is right at 24 at my house and I bet it is going to hit 15 or 16 as a low tonight. Sounds like a good time to drag my weary bones to bed. Wifes at work and the boys are sound asleep in their rooms, Puppy is out like a light as well. If I wasn't so tired I would just sit here and enjoy the quiet, it is hard to come by with 4 boys in the house.
wow....just got back from Eastport, the Jeep says 38 and it's pretty windy today, BUT the sky is bright blue, it's high tide, the water has little white caps with a deep dark blue color and the air smells great! oh, I wonder what the Eastport link looks like? hmmmm....never mind! it's not on
