Tell your son thank you for his part in this. This made a lasting impression on me because I remember how Arlington goes on for miles and miles and miles ..... so wrenching when you consider all the lost love out there ..
I'm sure it made a lasting impression on your son.
Thanks for sharing this !! Please give your son our thanks !
Not so long back I read another inspiring maine story about some folks in maine who get together at bangor International no matter the hour of the day or night to be sure that NO service man or woman is alone on layover and that they get the essentials they need. Friendly face, kind word, cellphone home. They committed to this task. No matter how we feel about this or any war I am touched by people who refuse to let go the human quotient. These are our men and women. They deserve all the kindness and support Americans and others have to give. Some do and some don't like the job they are currently doing but that does not mean we can't show our love and respect.
Although I didn't get tons of input on this thread things I have been reading today have pretty much erased the fear from my heart. My son says, "mom, do you really talk yourself OUT of it that often??"
Well, it's a BIG thing. I want to be as sure as possible that it's as right as possible. If this situation does not work out then we will pay maine a visit in about six months and do some long-term poking around. That will be during the worst of the winter so ... what we don't know now, we'll know after that.
Personally, I am hoping this current situation works out. Fingers crossed.
Mollysmiles, it's so nice that you asked your son for me what he knows about Harrington. That's very cool and made me feel good.

This event makes national news every year, and I was excited to see my then 15 year old on the CBS News last November as he placed a wreath on the grave of a soldier at Arlington. Civil Air Patrols and volunteers begin decorating and loading the wreaths in Harrington, and then a few days later caravan, with local police escorts from towns along the way, to Arlington. Take a few minutes to follow the link and read about this amazing project. For my son, this really pulled a lot of things into perspective.
