There are relatively few really qualified repair technicians who know how to fix these machines and fewer still who repair them using other than original, cheap bearings which means that they will need to be repaired again.

In addition, I have found that the burner assemblies in these heaters are not as good as they were originally, and they have a tendancy to fail just out of warranty. The result is that after owning six of these Monitor heater for use in one commercial building, and two at home, I no longer would buy a Monitor heater for any use at all.
That's good information to know. I was planning on turning part of my garage into an office and using one of the Monitors for heat. I guess I'll have to re-think that.

I can't tell you what the heating costs in Eastport are in the winter for us as we're not there in the winter, yet. But if this thread is still going in about 2 1/2 years, I'll add my costs to it.

I'm in Eastport and use a woodstove. I use about six cords of wood a year - a cost of about $1050.00. My only problem is that I've acquired many houseplants and when we vacation they can't get cold, so we purchased some propane monitor heaters with thermostats for that purpose. Haven't hooked them up yet, better get on it soon.

The electric service is costly here. They charge a 'delivery' fee for it so it doesn't seem to matter how much you try to conserve, the bill is still high.

I've learned that we did go up some this year...we do the pay monthly thing....we were at $225, and went up to $238 a month. The good news is that usually we don't use it all, and have had a credit the last 3 years in a row

Perfect plan! But buy a Toyostove and not a Monitor. There is a website that will give you a lot of inside information about all of these systems. It is run by a guy in Brunswick who is in the business. I have no connection to the website, but have had some of my Monitors rebuilt by him, and can recommend that you visit the website. Al's Heating.com I think it is.

I just ordered oil for the first time since last winter and I got a price of 2.44 a gallon and I was shocked until I went to work and found out that was a great price others are paying 2.92 a gallon. Just think and winter has not arrived yet. Many people will really be hurting this winter. I work for the HEAP program which help the elderly with fuel cost but even with what they can get from the program it won't make a dent if we have a bad winter.
So pray for a mild one or go south!!! or both!!!
Sue

I think heating costs are bad whereever and what ever you sure. my houseis 900sq ft and my hubby and i have put new windows and a new gas furnace in it(that is what is used in nebraska) and our heat bill is still high. Last year we ahd a pretty hard winter and one mths bill was $200! the usage was less but, the gas prices sky rocketed.
