Any special things going on during that time? What is a must see?

My comments are mostly about Bar Harbor. Everything in Acadia National Park is a must see. I've been there at least a thousand times, and I never get tired of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, or MDI. On the way there, when you get to Trenton Bridge, put down the windows and inhale the salt air and wood fire smoke from Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound. What Family Things to Do in Maine: Acadia Biking; Bar Harbor Whale Watching I would drive the Park Loop Road, stop at Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Cadillac Mountain. Take a 2 hour trip on the windjammer docked at the Bar Harbor Inn and/or go sightseeing/whalewatching. Downeast Windjammer Cruises & Ferries | Sailing from Bar Harbor, Maine Bar Harbor Whale Watching Tours

There are carriage rides available in Bar Harbor https://www.barharborinfo.com/member...orse_boarding/ and out on the Carriage Roads Carriages of Acadia - Horse Stabling and Carriage Tours in Acadia National Park There are nine cruise ships scheduled to be in Bar Harbor between 9/9 and 9/14.

Drive to Bass Harbor to see the lighthouse.

Popovers and afternoon tea at the Jordan Pond House is a long-time tradition, hike around the Pond, hike up to Bubble Rock. Check out the Carriage Ride choices. I hope this is enough to get you started. You also might want to search the CD threads for additional information already out there. You could also stop at the info place on Thompson's Island, just across the Trenton Bridge upon arrival.

Stop and visit the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. http://lighthouse.cc/pemaquid/

Tripadvisor has a Boothbay Harbor forum (and I'm sure a Bar Harbor forum) that I used for research in our trip (just got back). Suggest posting there; vacation advice is usually better found over there. HTH
