I think I posted this incorrectly, so I apologize if you reach this twice.

I am a 60 year old female, divorced/single. I have only 1500 per month in retirement income. Could I survive on this in Bath, is the cost of living lower or higher than los angeles, ca, and how hard would it be to find work to supplement my income? Is this the wrong place for me?

thanks you for your responses, Kameron

Default Relocating to Bath, Maine

Relocating to Bath on $1500/month....well, it might be do-able as Bath has a high percentage of rental housing, and single family homes are priced very reasonably. However, the housing stock is mostly old and they can be a bear to heat. At $3 bucks a gallon for oil one should be very careful to ask questions about heating costs when renting or buying. Otherwise, Bath is a lovely town that calls itself a city and why not? Charming downtown that is very walkable (and can be reached by walking or local bus from most of the residential areas), a nice mix of stores, some restaurants, a library and waterfront park. The major drawback for some is that Bath Iron Works is located on the south side of town and is a major military/industrial complex, and living on that side of town (south of the Sagadahoc Bridge) can be noisy with a night sky dominated by lighting. But it's interesting also, and keeps Bath from becoming gentrified. Being on the Kennebec River is a great plus; it's a beautiful river with lots of activity. Lastly, with Route 1 going through town access to points east, or west to Brunswick and Portland is very easy. I'm curious, why did you pick Bath?
