Please forgive me for not wanting to "Search."

I have a dying computer, and a bad keyboard.

Some of you may remember me - i live in NJ, trying desperately to relocate to your great state.

I'm an 'early retiree.' Going up next month to look at some houses that are for sale; I have a Buyer's Agent for 3 of the counties.

My question IS: would you live near (2 miles) from the Dragon Cement Plant in Thomaston? Just curious. I've researched it a bit.

Jill

(PS. that's ONE of my questions, i'll have many more - as always)

Where are you looking?
I'm from NJ and bought up there about 4 years ago and just put up a house.

Send me a private message, perhaps I can help.

Cool! I will msg you also.

I live in Salem County, NJ and i'm looking anywhere along coastal Maine where i can afford waterview/waterfront - salt water or open river.

This trip i dont have the money to go far up the coast, so i'm looking at some places in Thomaston, South Thomaston, Friendship, Rockland, Searsport, and Stockton Springs.

I've traveled the Maine coast thruout my life, and also other parts of Maine.

I like the town of Thomaston... I just want to make just the area where the one house is is not dusty (or smelly). I dont mind the blasts. And i also want to find out if the taxes will be going up due to downtown projects.

As far as coastal/waterfront property prices go, the less expensive they become the further north you go. southern ME and mid-coast tend to be pricey....hope you have investment bucks.

Jellybean50,
" just want to make just the area where the one house is is not dusty (or smelly). I dont mind the blasts."

Talk to the neighbors or townspeople. The prevailing wind is out of the west so property east of the cement plant will be more susceptible to dust.

Thank You. (the house is west of it)

And no, i dont have investment bucks. (I'm only looking for a small house, also.)

That's why i only have 6 houses to see in that area - i'm keeping below $170K.

I should also add that i'm trying to sell my house in NJ for $165K - when 3 or 4 years ago the CMA was about $215,000. It's ugly down here trying to sell a house

When you say "coastal", are you talking about being near the coast, or with full fledged waterfront? Remember that you may be able to buy waterfront, but you might be blown away by the specialized taxes which are often as much as 4 times what they would be if they didn't have edge of property on water.

I'm checking the tax listed on each property as i look at the houses online. I'm guessing that there is no extra tax besides that?

I do notice that property that includes land which goes right up to the water is a bit higher, but still about half of what i pay here in NJ.

(small rancher along tidal water - Stockton Harbor - .06 acre goes right up to water - $1,555 taxes; I pay $4K)
