Just got an email from our town saying we can sign up wit CN Brown Electric Co. and save some money by not going with CMP. Anyone do this? Was it worthwhile? Any hidden gotchas? I do know that you have to sign up for 1 year, and as I understand it, that if meanwhile during that year CMP lowers their rate, it's no longer a great bargain since you'd be "stuck" with the new co. under the terms of the contract for those 12 months.

Electricity Maine has been advertising for several months, and my husband is contemplating a switch to them. Dead River has also entered the electricity supply business.

I switched to Electricity Maine last year and am very satisfied. It really has no impact on your service, only the amount of your bill.

I tried my best google-ese I found a list on Maine.gov showing all possible electricity supplies for each of the three Maine electricity distributors.
MPUC: Retail Electricity Suppliers in Maine

From the BHE residential list [ten pages long] I went through many of the listed websites [trying to read through so much marketing scams trying to get me to buy shares in their stock, makes a person want to shower].

Here is a sampling of the rates that I found:
Electricity Maine - Enroll and Save on your Electric Bill
Fixed Supply Rate for BHE customers is $0.06689/kWh

Dead River Company : Electricity Rates
BHE customers: $0.0662/kWh

https://www.peoplespower.com/
BHE customers: $0.0649 per kWh

http://gulfelectricity.com/HomeME.aspx
BHE customers: $0.064/kwHr

Thank you--this is helpful. Our CMP bills have been $60-$80 per month (higher in July/August when we use the dehumidifier in the basement). Do you think we'd see a significant savings?

Submariner, thank you for the links!

Significant is such a personal word. To me, any money that's in my pocket, that wouldn't otherwise be there, is significant.

Same here.

Guess I should have asked what the savings might be on a $60 electric bill. Will CMP drop their rates more too?
