Here is a tip you should most certainly heed - "WEAR A LIFE JACKET" even if you are a good swimmer.

That's just outside Millinocket.
It's stunning, as is that whole area.
I just have a slight correction:

"Mt. Katahdin is the most spectacular place on Earth."

OK, maybe that is a bit hyperbolic, but I love it up there.

It's going to snow on Mt. Katahdin Sunday night and on a lot of our larger hills too. Hey, It isn't June yet.

I agree with all the above posters but will add my 2 cents; Bring a camera (waterproof if possible or in waterproof container if necessary). There are just some shots you will only get from a kayak/canoe. Wear more sunscreen than you think you'll need. Spray from paddling and the reflective sun will burn through more than you think. Be careful what you wear on your head. Hat? definitely. Just make sure it's not something the flying wildlife wouldn't be interested in. Bug spray. Bug spray. bug spray. Oh, did I mention you may want some bug spray? Yeah, something that mentions deep woods even though you will be on the water.

Welcome to Maine and hopefully the weather will cooperate and you'll have a great time!
