Interesting. I had no idea lots that small could have private wells/septic.

I am curious, do many small towns NOT have public water/sewer? Certainly that's the case where I live in southern New Hampshire. For me, it's just the fear of the unknown -- I've never had private services so find them scary (well, not in the Stephen King scary kinda way, although ... ).

Actually years ago I found (online) a house in Jonesport that seemed to me to be very cheap ... its backyard was the Moosabec Reach. Just gorgeous. I would have loved to buy it as a second home (and future retirement home) but that wasn't feasible at the time (or now!). I didn't know much about the town either ... just loved that house's backyard ...

We used to own a home in Scotland. We loved that

My employer and circumstances required that we moved and we sold it. There are some wonderful communities there.
