Hello All,

My wife and I will likely be relocating to Mount Desert Island in late fall/winter of 2013. We would like to rent for a year before purchasing a home. I have been perusing various websites and it appears most rentals are for winter/fall but do not include summer (this makes a lot of sense, as Bar Harbor is a summer town). However, we are actually going to be living and working there long-term and full time, so we would like to know anything anyone can tell us about year-around rentals (12-month leases). We would like to live on-island, but not necessarily in a certain community (we are open to anyplace on-island). Any information about this, and about life on the island in general, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you moving there to work or are you moving there to retire(I know you said "living and working" but that doesn't mean that you meant working for a living?

However, despite the rental situation, Bar harbor is only a "summer town" to those who haven't experienced it in the winter.

Hey, thanks for replying! I'm going there to work full-time, with a job already in place. We would really like to rent for a year to make sure it is a place we want to stay long term, which is the source of the question about year-around leases.......
