1. What is a loon? Did you see "On Golden Pond"? They showed loons and had loon calls. Kate Hepburn says, "The loons Norman, the loons..." The cries of the loon are wierd and beautiful and haunting. Tremelo's. They are right up their with wolf howls as the wildest sound imaginable. I love them. They are beautiful black and white waterfowl--bigger than most ducks but smaller than a goose. The mother loon will carry her babies on her back as she swims across the lake. Loons go back to pre-historic times and are one of the few birds with solid rather than lighter hollow bones. Because of this they require a rather long stretch of open water to become airborn. Loons are very vulnerable to motor boats and may abandon their nest if their is too much traffic; they are also vulnerable to lakes that get drawn down...as that exposes their nests to predators.

For the record, your English is better than some of those who only speak English. Also, though it's been over 20 years, I was a French major in college.

Yes, altho it looks as if I rudely ignored Annachantal's message here on the thread, I sent a DM to respond and to tell her that she sure doesn't write with an accent!
