This is the agency where my wife works. This opening represents multiple openings, they have not been able to fill these positions since last January, largely because nobody is applying for these jobs.

Generally a Federal job is a good thing, once a Federal employee you can do lateral transfers over into any other Federal agency that has an opening.

Krikey, that's odd that you don't even have apps, sad as some of them might be.
I guess the meth market remains good...

Hey Forest, thanks for the info. I clicked on the link and punched in ME-Bangor but all I came up with is Physical Security Specialist. Am I missing something?

am I taking this wrong? are you implying that people aren't applying for this position because they are manufacturing meth?

Because it's a Federal job it's not listed for the public until after it is posted for internal hire I expect. As it's not listed With the career center it could be that most don't even know about it. This is a great case where "word of mouth" comes into play it seems.

I just looked again, and there it is.

The Federal government only lists one opening in Bangor right now. This opening has been open since January 2007, and they need multiple people.

DECA in Bangor is going through a re-structuring; they are trying to move from a wide assortment of specialized positions, to 'store associates' that rotate around through most duties in the store.

The 'store associate' is an entry level position.

I am amazed that no body has been applying for these positions.

All Federal jobs are listed on USAJOBS.gov

An 'open' position is open to all US citizens.

They are not allowed to do 'internal hires', it woudl violate Federal law.

Previous Federal employees may have preference during hiring though, as do vets.

The general job requirements are:
Applications will be accepted from all U.S. Citizens.
You must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
If selected a pre-employment investigation is required.
A one year trial/probationary period may be required.
Direct Deposit of Pay is required.

The big thing that I see is how each level of government does not wish to 'play' with the other levels of government.

Towns stand against the state. States do not wish to play with Federal agencies.

Yesterday I visited the USDA new building recently opened in Bangor. While talking to the folks there, I got the idea that it appears that both the USDA and the Maine Ag department step on each others toes a lot.

Well I applied... but they probably figure me as overqualified... unfortunately the overqualified still have to pay rent and eat!
