We do have serious welfare problems. Has nothing to do with helping out the fellow mainers. One thing you'll notice in Maine is not enough people vote, and those who do vote, vote yes on everything. Maine has a terrible economy, so not surprising.

COL of living has too many variables, and usually doesn't include everyone.
Do you really live in Maine? Because compared to where I lived IN the Baltimore area, everything is better and cheaper in Downeast coastal Maine. Maybe you're just a glass is half empty kind of guy.

I haven't yet, but I've been dreaming for over a decade now. Fell madly in love with Maine on a two week trip. Have wanted to move ever since. I've tried half a dozen times and things always fall through. So I've decided to go back to school, get my RN in nursing since every place in the country needs nursing staff, and then hopefully in the next three or four years we can sell in TN and head north. Fingers crossed!

Love hearing everyone else's stories. Slyfox2 and Submariner I've tried to rep you but it says I"ve got to spread the love, but know I enjoyed your posts.

Why so mad?

I'm a realist. Maine has issues, especially for anyone not living in seclusion in the boonies. It's not all sugar coated cookies.

Don't be so sensitive.

Such a glass container is actually full; 50% liquid and 50% air. If your desire is a full container, then you have selected the wrong size.

Or I could see this as indication that you need more rum.

I moved back to Central Maine after 13 years (too many!) in SoCal. I AM living my dream now as my partner and I are starting an orchard and pick-you-own berry farm.

I had never dreamed of living in Maine, and I had never even visited until 2011. But Portland seemed pretty nice and I start dating a girl who was from Maine. She wanted to move back, and I had liked Portland enough that I said "sure, let's do it".

So we started looking for jobs in January earlier this year. Started interviewing with one particular company in March and finally got the job offer in July. We made the move in August. It's been a lot of fun so far.

The only downside is that it's way more expensive than Michigan was. Good thing the new job gave me a big raise compared to my old one.

We've been looking for a place in the woods for over 15 years. Checked Pa., NY and then Maine. We bought some land in 08 and got the house up about 2 years ago. The Mrs got cold feet for a while, and just this week gave the ok to make the move Iin 2014.

We're in Jersey City NJ and can't wait to get out. I'm walking from a 6 figure job because life is short and isn't fair. Jersey crime, taxes, insurance, utility bills are through the roof.

Not a clue as to what I'll do once I get there, but I don't care. We want to live life on our terms, and you only get one shot at it.

Some photos in my profile area.
