Most everyone here has been extremely helpful in giving me information on Maine and I ask, please don't stop. However if there are any here that are planning on visiting or moving to California, please ask and I promise I will give you the honest; good, bad, or even ugly answer.

I didn't want to intertwine this with my first thread. Also those that have PM'd me thank you for the additional help.

There is a saying: "As California goes, so goes the world." I've always been embarrassed that we are so arrogant here that we live that mantra. I have such a love hate relationship here because I was born here and live my life here. I have worked in and out of the entertainment industry since I was 14.

Let me tell you those stock shots of Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier, The Hollywood Walk of fame and all the palm trees and mansions is only just the marketing tip of the iceberg. Having said that. California has some of the most versatile geographic places on earth. From the ocean to the desert, to the Redwood forest and Mammoth Mountains.

I however was raised in the heart of L.A. From Hollywood to North Hollywood. I gotta say, you do need to come see to believe. Honestly some come and never leave. On the other hand the most that leave end up coming back. Go figure.

And trust me. Throw anything at me or California. Too thick of a skin to get mad. Have fun my friends. But seriously if you have any questions, let me know.

I lived in San Diego for 13 years (99-12)........the first couple of years were terrific, but after 9-11 things seemed to start going downhill. I wish that I had been in the LA area instead......much more to see and do, and believe it or not.......I actually liked the people better up there. The only good thing about San Diego was the Mexican culture and food. Of course, they were even trying to bury that as more and more Texans and Arizonans moved in........the worst example of that was their "make-over" of Old Town which went from a colorful Mexican Fiesta to a Texas-like drab, dusty, and over-priced POS.

Anyway......I will get back to CA.......must visit NoCal more and see the Redwoods! Also wouldn't mid a retirement home in Palm Springs (I know some people don't like it......but I love it there!)

I think most states have a sector of arrogance in that respect. Some call it pride, some call it arrogance.

Personally, I could care less about sound bites and slogans for any state.

Maine is no different. Years ago we were know as "As Maine goes, so goes the nation."

I lived in Palm Desert for two years. Right next to Palm Springs. Be prepared for extremely hot summers. Not unusual to reach over 113 degrees. Very dry hot weather. Maybe 2 inches of rain a year. A ton of stuff to do though. I mean a ton. You need to be tolerant of the Gay lifestyle as it is the Gay capitol of California. The cost of living there is very high. A very well maintained city, with no ghettos. If you like to shop, eat out and concerts and entertainment you won't be sorry.

Heavy traffic in the city. And there is a huge retirement community there, so get used to seeing a lot of grey hair and slow drivers. You definitely need patience. Wish you the best.
