i never heard these till i moved to the coast

haaaboy a greeting to another fisherman
all men are 'boy'

forple, fipple- a gang of traps with 4 or 5 on them (a fisherman will fish a single, double, triple, forple or fipple before they start calling them trawls)

directions are to the southard, northerd, westard or easterd

if a man is addressing another man, except in formal settings (i.e. town meeting, and that might be only if holds a position of importance) he never uses his proper name, unless he doesnt like him or has a contradictory opinion. the proper name is the common form, the full name would be ok.
come flood- a time, when the tide turns towards high tide.

pisserinctum- i think this is a local term, but i like it. just means really nasty weather, usually sudden and short lived.

I always thought it was Frickin', Frackin' whatevah. but, since these things are never written down (until this forum came along), I have no basis to thing I was right.

I think all our posters should collectively put together a Mainerism thesaurus. We've already put most of 'em in print thru the past couple of years.

Yeah, I thought the "boy" thing was pretty funny 'cause in the Black neighborhood that's a fighting word. Around here they all call each other "boy".
