Any Floridians here that moved to Maine? Was it hard to adjust to the weather?

Not Maine but Minnesota. It can be done - now we moved to the Twin Cities which is a metro area and do not have long commutes. I imagine living a bit farther out - and we would be long gone further south. We actually enjoy the change in seasons.

I moved from Miami in May 2011. It was not hard for me because I like the cold. I hate the heat and oppressive humidity. What you will discover is that while everyone up here gets hot, red faced, and complains about the humidity in the summer time, you will stand there and be cool as a cucumber wondering what humidity they are talking about.

It can get cold here...but if you aren't standing in an open field with the wind blowing on you, you should be fine. Just buy your warm clothes up here. Florida's version of long sleeved warm clothes will not cut it here.

I had friends that moved up here while they went to college, they absolutely hated it during the winter and couldn't wait to get back to Florida. They had a hard time with the driving during the winter and the cold weather because they weren't at all used to it. Needless to say once college was done up here they loaded up and left as fast as they could.

Another friend who is originally from here moved to Florida a number of years ago and married a woman from FL. They moved back up here for a short time and she was absolutely beside herself while up here. She had lived in Florida all her life and never really left the area she was from down there. When they got up here she couldn't believe the snow and ice lol. She was an outdoors girl and loved it up here, but never could get used to the snow. They ended up divorcing and she went back to FL pronto.

Moving from FL to here is definitely doable, but I think it takes a certain kind of person.

Depends on the kinds of winter you get. If it was the first winter we were here---2011-12.... not too big a deal.

Last winter---more serious. This winter is shaping up to be a real Maine Winter from years ago. Jumping into this from Florida would be a shick to say the least. It all about gear: clothing gear, house preparations, auto preparations, snow removal preparations, and preparations for extreme cold.

Floridians would simply not know how to prepare for the winter we are having now---with any of the items listed above. The preparations would not be in their repetoire of activities to do or to buy or to get or to make.

If a Floridian arrived yesterday, they'd probably make a big, fat U-Turn and hightail it outta here!

Ayuh.

Well you can make all the preparations in the world for the cold and snow/ice wind but when you go out your door to do errands or whatever it's still a big "pain" to have that biting wind and below 0 temps hit you in the face. I've been here well over 40 years and am still greatful when April rolls around - especially this year.
