What are nice mountain towns in Maine to live in? We don't need to find jobs because we are retiring. Thank you.

I would scratch Kingfield unless you are skiers. Traffic is terrible in winter. Flash floods are a big threat following heavy snow winters and secluded back road properties are very expensive compared with other towns on the list. The scenery is great though.

Isn't that the definition of a "mountain town?"

Hi Mainebrokerman,

I have read many of your Posts!
You are a very knowledgeable fellow!
(Are you a 'Senior' as I am....(I'm 62).

Anyway - Which of the above mentioned towns would be the least expensive to live in?
What about Houses for Rent, with possible rent-to-own potential?
My Wife & I are planning to move out of Connecticut. with 3 months.
We are looking for quiet, serenity, freedom, and NO neighbors, within a mile.
Looking for some 'elbow room/LAND.
(Is this even possible)?

I figured that YOU were the best man to ask this question to.

Gotta 'get outta Dodge' before we Die, if you know what I mean.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You & Happy Easter!

thanks for the compliment-95% of what i know i learned from others, the other 5% is by accident

maine is a low population state- your description fits many different areas/towns
you arent that far away- so i'd recommend, you drive to maine,,,start from fryburg, and drive north to bethel, then drive the western towns, thru rumford, rangeley and eustis- up towards jackman -then towards greenville,,
then drive to millinocket

i've learned, that everyone will experience a different "feel" for different areas/towns

see the towns you like, then look for rentals

bethel area- i would definitely drive around,,,,take the drive to upton-there's a back road to rumford.... if you want rural and mountainous,,,, you will like this area (i drove it last week)

good luck
