It is in our house too... it's amazing.

Michael leaves the house at 4:45 am tomorrow.... the first time he went down was an incredible experience for him, and that was before it was as big as it is now--he was there the year the photo of the cemetery was taken and circulated via the emails, 2 years ago.... we're pretty sure it was Maj Murray's photo, but of course he would never say. If you head over there tomorrow morning as they load the truck... say hello to him! He'll like that--the nametag is "Muir"

In todays Bangor Daily News there is an article on our wreaths. I say "our" because they are from Maine. There is a nice photo on Page 8. I cut it out and will frame it for the season.

Seems like this has caught on TOO well. The originators say they have been overwhelmed by volunteers wanting to help put the wreaths on the soldiers graves! I guess that's a good thing as they can do the whole cemetary now in about 10 minutes. My Uncle Major Robert Burns who served in Korea is there. Thank you Maine.

I saw something last week on the Nat'l news. It was so enlightening to see so many volunteers there helping in placing the wreaths. Sort of restores ones faith in humanity. They interviewed the man that started it, he was truly humbled by how this started out and what it has become. It is then that you sit back and say, "Wow, what a great state we are, how proud are we to all to be from there."

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! I'm so proud to be a Mainer... & I can't watch any of these videos without crying.

I make & send care packages, sometimes for people I know, sometimes for strangers (AnySoldier.com). My friends act like this is a novel concept, & in one letter a soldier was surprised that someone closer to their age was sending stuff (apparently most of their donors are older, not a surprise). All I can say is... you can take the girl out of Maine, but you can't take Maine out of the girl.

Supporting those who sacrifice should not be a novel concept. It should come naturally.

Thank you, Maine. (And NMLM and mollysmiles, for posting this)

When I first saw a feature about the wreaths a few years ago (2006?), it made a powerful impression on me. The phrase 'beautiful gesture' comes to mind, but words do not adequately describe it.

No other state does something like this (that I know of).
